The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

Magnetic Fields é um dos projetos do compositor/produtor/multi-instrumentista Stephin Merritt, que vive na cidade de New York. Adepto da programação e produção musical, Stephin grava e produz seus próprios álbuns e toca quase todos os instrumentos, mas sempre contando com a ajuda preciosa do violoncelista Sam Davol, do banjoista/guitarrista John Woo e da percussionista/pianista Claudia Gonson.

Em 1999, o Magnetic Fields lançou a coleção de 3 discos chamada “69 Love Songs”. O álbum vendeu 130.000 cópias ao redor do mundo e, pode-se dizer, foi seu passaporte de entrada no mainstream. Além de Stephin, “69 Love Songs” também traz vocais da pianista Claudia Gonson, bem como três cantores adicionais, LD Beghtol, Dudley Klute e Shirley Simms. O disco inclui ainda as contribuições instrumentais de Chris Ewen do Future Bible Hero e do romancista Daniel Handler no acordeão.

Esse é um dos melhores CD's que eu já ouvi, repleto de belas canções e uma harmonia lo-fi muito original , 69 Love Songs sem duvidas pode ser considerada uma das obras primas do indie pop. É dividido em 3 CDs, cada um com 23 canções . O CD que eu mais escuto é o volume 1 que tem ótimas musicas como, "I don't believe in the sun" e "The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side". Para quem curte Belle & Sebastian e Jens Lekman vai curtir muito o som do The Magnetic Fields.
